An employee in this class is responsible for performing general duty law enforcement work for the field operations bureau of the city’s police department. Work includes routine patrol, traffic accident and criminal investigation, police vehicle maintenance, serving criminal papers, traffic law enforcement, and responding to domestic disputes. This employee is highly visible in crime areas, and must be aggressive in preventing crime. This employee must have the ability to develop a positive public image. Tact and firmness, sound judgment, and a positive attitude are required. Employee is subject to the usual hazards of law enforcement work. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of a sergeant, and is evaluated for effectiveness, visibility, aggressiveness, and apprehensions. Work is reviewed by observation and review of written reports.

Equipment Operator I (3 openings)

An employee in this class performs routine equipment operator work in maintaining and repairing safe and attractive structures, facilities, and grounds for use by city residents. Equipment includes a pickup truck and trailer, tractor, mower, loader, forklift, backhoe, dump truck, and/or other motorized equipment not requiring a CDL-A license. Work includes landscaping, digging post holes and trenches, equipment maintenance, leaf collection, truck driving, loading and unloading water and wastewater pipes on to work truck, resurfacing cuts in streets, ditch maintenance, and other tasks as assigned. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of a crew supervisor or department director. Work is evaluated for general safety, proper equipment operation, and overall appearance of city structures and is checked daily by visual inspection and feedback.

Sanitation Worker
Full-time - $26,949 - $33,481

An employee in this class collects municipal garbage, yard waste, and refuse from residences and businesses. Work is performed as a member of a sanitation collection crew and includes loading waste into a rear packer garbage truck (consisting of potentially heavy garbage containers and waste bags) and washing and steam cleaning garbage trucks. Work occurs in all weather conditions and may including working holidays and working overtime. Work is supervised by a route supervisor or other sanitation official and is evaluated for efficiency and work completion according to department and community standards of assigned routes.
