The most effective way to prevent the tragedy of fire and other injuries is to educate the public on their causes and to introduce strategies in dealing with these emergencies. The Mebane Fire Department’s Fire & Life Safety Educator can provide the safety tools needed to prevent tragedies.

The Mebane Fire Department provides the following educational programs.

Fire Station Tours

The Mebane Fire Department offers fire station tours to individuals, civic groups, and classes. Individuals may have a look at fire equipment, apparatus, and areas of the fire station.

Child Passenger Safety

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motor vehicle collisions are the leading cause of unintentional deaths in children. Providing a child restraint that is properly selected, installed, and used is the best way to ensure that your children do not add to this statistic. Is your child’s car seat installed properly?

The Mebane Fire Department is a Child Safety Seat Permanent Checking Station, which educates parents and caregivers on the correct selection, installation and use of car seats.  The department has 17 Nationally Certified and experienced technicians available at two locations.

*Currently, due to COVID, we are only checking seats by appointment only.

Monday – Friday 8:30-11:00 and 1:00-4:30
Saturday & Sunday by appointment only
Station #2: 405 N. First Street
Station #3: 1469 Mebane Oaks Road

Daycare/Classroom Visits

We offer a variety of educational fire prevention classes tailored to meet the needs and ages of daycare or school children.

National Fire Prevention Week

The Mebane Fire Department highlights fire safety all year long, but even more so during National Fire Prevention Week.  During the month of October, the fire department visits all three elementary schools to provide hands-on burn prevention and fire escape technics through a fun, safe simulation of common hazards.

Remembering Whenkids safety training

Remembering When is a Fire and Fall Prevention Program for older adults developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). The program helps older adults live safely at home for as long as possible.  Presentations can be tailored for individuals or large groups.

Fire Extinguisher Training

The Mebane Fire Department offers hands-on fire extinguisher training for businesses, homeowners, organizations, and any adult interested in learning the benefits of fire extinguishers and their use. Fuel and extinguishers must be provided.

Safe Surrender Site

The Mebane Fire Department, in collaborative effort with Family and Children Services, provides two fire stations as Safe Surrender Sites.
