Where do I pay for recreation fees?

Taxes:
Are City and County taxes billed separately?
Taxes were billed separately through the 2015 billing cycle. Beginning with the bills to be issued in July-August 2016, the County will include Mebane taxes on the same bill as the county tax.
Does the City of Mebane give a discount for early tax payments?
Yes, there is a .5% discount if taxes are paid by August 31st.
When are tax bills issued?
Tax bills are usually sent out in mid-July or early August.
Vehicles:
Do I pay my vehicle tax to the City of Mebane?
Only unlicensed vehicles (those that are junked or antique, eg.) are taxed as personal property and billed on behalf of the City. With the
NC Tax and Tag Together
program, most vehicle taxes are billed by the NC DMV along with the annual vehicle registration fees. The NC Department of Revenue distributes the taxes to the appropriate counties and cities. These bills are issued around the anniversary date of your vehicle registration each year.

Permits/Licensing:
Do I need a license or permit for a home based business?
Beginning July 1, 2015, S.L. 2014-3/House Bill 1050 eliminated local government authority to levy the privilege license tax with the exception of ABC and peddler licenses. Although a privilege license is no longer necessary for most businesses, the City’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) requires a Business Occupancy Certificate before a business can occupy a commercial space and home-based businesses may be subject to county Health Department or other review and certification. Please visit our Planning and Inspections Department at 102 S. Fifth St., or call 919-563-9990, and they will guide you through the process.
Do I need a business license to conduct business inside the City of Mebane?
For most businesses, the city no longer issues business licenses. If your business is located in the city limits, and you sell beer, wine or mixed drinks, you will need an ABC license. Please call City Hall at (919) 563-5901 if you have questions regarding your specific business.

These processes usually take between 2 - 3 months.

911: When to Call?
Call 911 only for emergencies - situations where immediate police, fire or ambulance assistance is needed. For non-emergency situations, call (919) 563-9031. Examples include dogs barking, loud music complaints or directions.
Motor Vehicle Accidents
If you are involved in a minor accident where there are no visible signs of injury to persons involved and the vehicles are drivable, move your vehicle out of the traveled portion of the roadway. Cars left in the road contribute to traffic congestion which can cause other accidents. Call 911 and exchange driver information. DO NOT leave the scene until you have spoken to the police officer.

It takes 1-2 weeks to acquire a building permit.

The City of Mebane contracts recycling services with Waste Industries. This service is set up at the same time you make application for water, sewer and trash service. The recycle truck picks up every other week.

What is the schedule for yard waste pickup?
Yard waste pickup alternates from the north to south side each week. Please remember to bag or containerize your grass clippings and yard waste in order to comply with storm water requirements.
